Yogyakarta
Special Region (Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, DIY) is officially one of
Indonesia’s provinces. Yogyakarta is one
of the foremost cultural centers of Java which located at the foot of the
active Merapi volcano. Yogyakarta was in
the 16th and 17th centuries the seat of the mighty
Javanese empire of Mataram from which present day Yogyakarta has the best
inherited of traditions. The city itself has a special charm, which seldom

This
province is one of the most densely populated areas of Indonesia. The city came
into being in 1755, after the Mataram division into the Sultanates of
Yogyakarta and Surakarta (Solo). It was the mighty Javanese Empire of Mataram,
Nayogyakarto Hadiningrat. Jogjakarta (Jogja) came into being in 1755, when a
land dispute split the power of Mataram into the Sultanates of Yogyakarta and
Surakarta (Solo). Prince Mangkubumi built Kraton of Yogyakarta and created one
of the most powerful Javanese states ever.
The
culture in Yogyakarta you can find gamelan, classical and contemporary Javanese
dances, wayang kulit (leather puppet), theater and other expressions of
traditional art will keep the visitor spellbound. Local craftsmen excel in arts
such batiks, silver and leather works.

just short way to look around Malioboro street, you can choose Becak and Andong
but before you used this traditional transportation, you should bargain first
the rate until get good price. Becak and Andong you still easy to find this
transportation in this area. Traditional public transportation would be good
part to explore city Yogyakarta but just in short way. Andong and becak can’t
take long journey. Because most of becak still manual bike with modification
three wells, including Andong which the horse also don’t have much energy to
take long journey. The new
transportation in Yogyakarta is Transjogja. This is not bad for public
transportation but for the time still not fix between bus stop to bus stop.
Sometimes you should need long time but sometimes short time to get the route
for your destination. This bus stop for Transjogja almost every corner in
Yogyakarta and including you can go to Prambanan temple with this bus. To used
this transjogja bus, first you should pay around 4.000 IDR (0.40 USD) and
should entrance bus stop close your location to get around town.
